Karazhan: Moroes

Post  Decerteau on Sun Aug 10, 2008 7:28 pm

First mandatory boss of Kara, and the first boss that requires guildies to be awake!

Good written guide - http://www.wowwiki.com/Moroes

Good video guide - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=wJUB_9j4pH0 (Funny)

Moroes is the steward of Karazhan, and has invited some guests along for dinner, who are not at all happy that keepers of light have decided to crash their party for epicz. Moroes is joined by 4 of 6 possible adds, these are:

Baroness Dorothea Millstipe - Shadow priest
Lady Catriona Von'Ind - Holy priest
Lady Keira Berrybuck - Holy Paladin
Baron Rafe Dreuger - Ret Paladin
Lord Robin Daris - Arms Warrior
Lord Crispin Ference - Prot Warrior

The chances of killing this boss are clear in the first few minutes of the fight. If the mobs are running uncontrollably and DPS isn't burning them down quick enough, the fight will almost always end in a wipe. The three main CC types for these undead targets that are most effective are:
1/ Priest's shackle
2/ Hunter's frost trap
3/ Paladin's Turn Evil

Balanced group compositions usually have two of these forms of CC. So 2 of the 4 adds are usually CC'd for the entire fight, whilst the raid burns down the 2 'loose' adds asap. Those that are cc'd wil be determined by raid leaders and officers as most appropriate. Generally, it is advisable to shackle the holy paladin as top priority. The priests have the least health and are usually the class to be dpsed first. Most important thing is for all those classes that can interrupt spells to ensure the priests do not let off dispels or mana burns. The shadow priests mana burn is painful for healers and possibilities of success. Don't let her get one off. Mind-numbing posions and curse of tongues is also useful on spell caster adds.

Kill order is usually as follows

1st Non-CC, 2nd Non-CC, Moroes, 1st CC, 2nd CC

DPS need to be on tip-top shape. Bring elixirs and pots.

Now for Moroes:

Both MT and OT should be on Moroes throughout the fight. This is because moroes sometimes gouges and blinds the tank which thus requires someone to take agro. Every 30 seconds, Moroes vanishes and will appear again, garroting someone and leaving a nasty physical debuff. Garrote can be removed by the following:
* Dwarves' Stoneform
* Paladins' Divine Shield and Blessing of Protection (to another target)
* Mages' Ice Block
* Items which remove bleeding effects (Luffa no longer works)

It seems that hunters can avoid Garrote by Feign Death during Vanish. Paladin's should save their BOP for the most squishie members of the party that cannot protect themselves, and also the highest dps. I tend to wait until a priest or warlock have it. But i don't hesitate to give it to other members, it ticks for a lot and drains a lot of mana in trying to heal against it. In the period when he vanishes, all mana users should have a quick drink to replenish mana.

Once moroes is down, it is time to deal with the remaining adds and the battle is won.

The first part of the fight is usually make or break. Once two of the adds are down, and CC is firmly secured, the rest of the fight is won (as long as DPS and healers do their job!)

This fight requires elixirs and pots, don't come without. Finally, ventrilo is definitely needed for this fight for raid leader to call out wayward mobs and sudden changes in tactics. It is in our (wipe) and your (repair bill) interest to have it!
